Training around old injuries in Da Nang

An old knee, a cranky back or a shoulder that hates pressing does not have to stop you training. It does mean your program should be built around it, by a coach who looks at how you move before adding weight.

Training, not treatment

Personal training sessions do not diagnose or treat injuries. If something needs assessment or treatment, that happens at Danang Physical Therapy, and we pick training back up once it is settled.

Who this is for

  • You were injured months or years ago. It has healed, but it still talks to you when you train.
  • Certain lifts flare something up, so you avoid them, or you have stopped going to the gym altogether.
  • You have finished rehab and want to get back to proper strength training without starting from zero.
  • You are not in pain day to day, but you do not trust a knee, your back or a shoulder under load.

If you are in pain right now, have a new injury, or something is getting worse, start with an assessment at Danang Physical Therapy instead.

It starts with a movement screen

Your free first session includes a movement screen: a squat, a hip hinge, a single-leg step-down, a push and an overhead reach. I look at what moves well, where your body takes a shortcut, and which positions feel uncomfortable. The screen is not a diagnosis. It tells me how to load you safely and what to keep an eye on as the weights go up.

I read movement with the Kinesiopathological Model: the idea that movements and postures repeated slightly off, thousands of times, are what wear a joint down. If a joint keeps taking a shortcut under load, the answer is usually to change how you move, not to stop training.

How we train around it

  1. 01Adjust, do not avoidIf back squats bother your knee, we might use a box squat, a different stance or a split squat, and work back toward the full movement as your control improves.
  2. 02Technique before loadWeight goes up only when your technique has earned it. A small fault at a light weight becomes a big one at a heavy weight.
  3. 03Train the range you controlWe load the range you can own, then expand it session by session.
  4. 04Log how it respondsLoads, reps and how the area feels during and after sessions are tracked, so we know whether a change is helping.
  5. 05Change the plan, do not push throughPain that builds from session to session is a signal to change the plan or get it assessed, not something to grind through.

Where training stops and physio starts

Personal training is for people who are ready to train. Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of injuries belong at Danang Physical Therapy, the physiotherapy side of No BS Academy. If something comes up in our sessions that needs a closer look, I will tell you, and you can get it assessed there before we carry on. Once it is settled, you come back to training with a coach who already knows your history.

What it costs

Training around an old injury costs the same as any other coaching: from 600,000 VND per session on a 12 week block, 800,000 VND for a single session, and the first session is free. Every block includes a written program, a meal plan and a free My An Sport Center membership for the length of the block. See all personal training prices.

Questions about training with an old injury

Can you fix my injury?

Personal training does not treat injuries. What I do is screen how you move and build a program that works around your limits while you get stronger. For assessment and treatment, book at Danang Physical Therapy.

Do I need a doctor's clearance first?

If you have a recent injury, recent surgery or a medical condition that affects exercise, yes. The free trial form includes a health screen, and if anything in it needs a doctor's input first, I tell you before we meet.

What if something hurts during a session?

We stop that exercise and change it. Training should not make your symptoms build from session to session. If it does, that is a sign to get it assessed.

Will I have to avoid squats or deadlifts forever?

Usually not. Most people can work back toward the main lifts with the right variation and enough time. Whether that happens, and how fast, depends on you, so I will not promise a timeline.
